Where do I start…I booked a reservation for a one night stay to run the Richmond Marathon. I received a notification from the Bonvoy app to begin my check-in process. The day before I was scheduled to arrive, I checked my reservation again only to find that it had been cancelled by the hotel due to maintenance issues. I was stuck with no hotel room and only a promise of a future one night stay as compensation for canceling my reservation less than 24 hrs prior to my arrival and no other options for booking another room. The staff was less than accommodating in handling the issue and only offered a very hollow apology. Marriott corporate was unable to assist except to find a last minute room at another hotel with a rate almost 3X the rate I had reserved at this hotel and no flexibility. Needless to say, I will not be staying this hotel or any other Marriott hotel in the foreseeable future.
