FAQs - booking Senegal flights

  • I am traveling to Senegal to visit Lake Retba, which airport should I fly to?

If you are visiting Senegal’s magnificent Lake Retba, it would be advisable to book a flight to Blaise Diagne International Airport. From here, you will need a taxi service to get to the lake. This is because, for one, a part of the road towards Lake Retba is unpaved and has no road signs. Drivers offering taxi services in the area are familiar with the roads and can orient themselves efficiently. You can still consider using Senegalese public transport.

  • How many international airports are there in Senegal?

There are two main international airports in Senegal. These include Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) and Leopold Sedar Senghor Airport (DKR). Both airports are in Dakar, the capital of Senegal.  However, since 2017 when the Blaise Diagne Airport was opened and took over international passenger flights, Leopold Sedar Senghor Airport mainly handles international cargo flights.

  • Do US citizens require a Visa to travel to Senegal?

No, they do not. At the moment, Senegalese authorities no longer require US citizens to obtain a visa for stays less than 90 days. However, if you are planning to stay longer, you will need to obtain a visa for the stay. This can be done at either the Embassy of Senegal in Washington, D.C., or at the Senegalese Consulate, New York.

  • Can I rent a car at Ziguinchor Airport?

There are several places to visit in Zinguinchor, the main town of the Casamance region. The best way to travel from the airport to these places is by rental car. Though Zinguinchor Airport has no onsite rental counters, there are rental car agencies near the airport. The agencies can drop your car at the airport after making an online reservation.

  • Are there nonstop flights to Senegal?

Yes, there are. However, in the United States, you should note that the only airport where you can find such flights to Dakar is JFK New York. The direct journey will take approximately 7h 30min. The only airlines offering this service, however, are Delta Airlines and Air Senegal.

  • What airport should I fly into when visiting Saint Louis?

Saint Louis is an old town on Senegal’s northwest coast renowned for its colonial architecture. You can get a domestic flight from Blaise Diagne Airport to Saint-Louis Airport (XLS) to visit the town. The airport is approximately 7.5 miles from the city center and has several ground transportation alternatives to comfortably get you there.

  • What is the luggage policy when flying to Senegal?

Regulations governing luggage might vary from one airline to the other. Additionally, for some airlines such as Air Senegal, the number and weight of luggage allowed depends on the class you are traveling in. Therefore, you will be required to pay an extra fee for luggage that surpasses your free luggage allowance. Additionally, checking in the luggage has been made easier for you thanks to the online checking system. However, some essential luggage such as baby bags is allowed on board. Children are typically allowed a baggage allowance equal to adults.

  • Which bus services can I use from Blaise Diagne Airport to the city center?

There are two bus services from Blaise Diagne Airport to the city center. Aerobus offers express routes seven times daily from the airport to the city center. Dakar Dem Dikk has a bus leaving every thirty minutes from the airport to the city center. A ride with Dakar Dem Dikk will take longer than one on Aerobus, but it is cheaper.

  • Is there a lounge from where I can work at Blaise Diagne Airport?

Unfortunately, there is no dedicated workspace at the Blaise Diagne Airport. Nonetheless, if you want to quickly catch up on work before leaving the airport, you can do so at one of two lounges; Odysee Lounge next to gate 1 on the departures level and Salon Infinite near gate 1. These lounges have scanners, printers, computers, Wi-Fi, and scanners to support your work.

  • Do ladies have to cover up when leaving the airports in Senegal?

Though Senegal is a primarily Muslim country, female visitors do not have to cover their hair, shoulders, knees, and heads when leaving the airport in most places. In large cities and villages, most of the local ladies do not wear hijabs, so you will not disrespect the culture or get into trouble by not covering yourself.

5-hour delay due to storms in Tanoa and airspace restricted by Miami traffic controllers.

A regional sized plane was used for a cross country flight with no overhead bin space. I had to "pink check" my laptop and my medications. I was NOT pleased!!!!

Absolutely nothing flight was cancelled and delayed for 2 days. Barely a heads up I want a full refund

The plane from SNA wouldn’t start after 5 tries. The team gave me an option of flying direct from LAX and giving me a Lyft ride there! Perfect!

Best airline! Always friendly and welcoming. Skyclub was great and loved the fast free wifi on board. I also love that you can pre-order your meal on the app!

Atlanta boarding crew at gate were filled with arrogance and were disrespectful. In flight crew showed indifference to the needs of passengers. This is about the flight from ATL to BDL.

The plane was FREEZING SEATS UNCOMFORTABLE Otherwise smooth Thank you

Boarding was chaotic. I didn’t finish dinner because I went to bed early. Breakfast omelet was overcooked and tasteless but croissant was better than usual. Plane was dirty—crumbs in every seam and lavatory was poorly maintained (paint peeling, etc.) and toilet paper had not been refreshed before takeoff. No cubby for storage in first and seat was narrow.

Boarding was somewhat chaotic. Unable to evaluate crew or food/drink because captain kept them seated due to turbulence. Have no idea if entertainment was offered.

West Jet has a horrible boarding process and the seats have no cushion.

The check in was horrible. I stood in line for 1 hour to check in with an Air France ticket. Then I was told I had to go to Delta counter onstead to check in instead. It made no sense.

Old cabine without flat bed in business for a 12 hour flight is not acceptable

Generally good. The crew is excellent. The food could be better.

They charge me for luggage which is was included on the ticket

Boarding was smooth and on time. The seat was comfortable and the entertainment worked. Staff were gracious.

Business class in the second leg - CDG-EVN was a disaster.

worst experience ever i choose my seat in advance and also have my seat selected in my boarding and the they told me that my seat has been changed without notify me

I have used Air France and KLM many times it will help if they change their menu's feel like it's been the same for years!!!, Especially the breakfast. Overall the flight was good and enjoyable.

No birding was given for next trip on same carrier, food was very moderate.

We transited through Chad and what was supposed to be a 1hr 20 minutes transit time lasted over 4hrs. We didn't get regular updates until we complained. After a 10hr flight from Paris no form of refreshment given and finally arrived Abuja over 6hrs later and none of my bags came

Seats comfortable on economy plus and attendants very helpful. Food was ok. Bathrooms needed servicing.

I paid for premium economy but BA oversold the seats and we ended up being downgraded. Not acceptable given how much we paid for the flight. We were also separated to 2 different areas so not only did we not get the service we paid for, we didn’t even get to sit together. I’m not happy at this treatment by BA because of corporate greed.

Original flight was cancelled - After waiting 2 hours for new take-off times. Then had to stand in line for 3 hours, ending at 2:30 am - to be told, " No hotel rooms anywhere in Dallas". No way for me to get any rest at DFW at that time of night.

I liked the friendly crew and desk staff, all very helpful. I was surprised and a little annoyed on my outbound flight from LGW to MCO as I had prepaid and booked my seat, which was all correct at check in on my boarding pass. when I got on the plane someone was in my seat ! I was moved to another seat. The food choice is quite limited and I feel that an option of a muffin for breakfast snack would be welcomed, not everyone wants egg or bacon wrap. The choice of entertainment is good, plenty to keep you busy on a long haul flight. I liked the option offered to have the cabin bag checked into the hold, it saved me as an older, lone traveller lifting my case into the overhead locker or finding there was no space.

good service from crew. Before the would have an option between cookies or nuts as snacks.. Now, there are only cookies. too bad. People who can not have sugar don't have a choice.

I’m hoping for WiFi included. Everything else was very good

All corners have been cut and it’s a cheap experience that no longer is distinguished from most other cheap airlines

Rude security cunts. However the lady that issued my boarding ticket when I was flying back from New York was lovely & helpful!!

Appalling! The flight was delayed by 3.5 hours and the American Airlines staff at the airport where nit very helpful. Once boarded, the flight crew were unhelpful, the food was poor and the aircraft was tatty.

The food is really eco only level. Breakfast was shameful. I am considering to stop flying with Iberia. Business prices are as expensive as other companies with much better service.

There were some things that were not maintained well on the plane. There were foot rests that didn’t elevate for myself and my son in law. The flight attendants were excellent. Boarding in Senegal was chaotic.

Everything could have been better. The food was bad, the service was bad, and the flight staff were not very friendly.

I had surgery on both of my legs in February 2022 and the flight was booked in March. The purpose of booking business class was to have an opportunity to stretch my legs due to the surgery. The flight going and coming was so difficult for me because the seats were broken, I have video and pictures of this horrible flight and a report from my surgeon regarding the this. It is unfortunate that I will have to get a lawyer to get a refund and sue this airline. I have sent them correspondence regarding the incident as well as the Better Business Bureau and they refuse to respond.

After paying for business class, we were given anything but business. They used a rented plan from China that had no inflight entertainment, the seats were broken and besides that, we had a 15-hour layover in Dakar. The same problems existed on the return flight. The flight from New York to Baltimore was the worst, the flight attendance decided to have a personal conversation and I am guessing that because there were only three passengers in business class, that they did not have to give the emergency announcement and proceeded to carry on their personal conversation during the entire flight. Worst travel experience of my life!

First time in my life that i had a 5hrs delay with no agent to give us any explanation...We had a very bad experience with Air Senegal...while Senegal is a nice country to visit but the Air Sénégal airline is very bad in customer service...

normal business seats with sufficient leg room. good food. no entertainment whatsoever

Very comfortable flat bed. Perfect for overnight sleeping. Interesting that a dozen wheel chairs were provided to the elderly that have been walking teh whole evening only for them to board eaely. Made a joke that HC408 stood fo handicapped.

Flat bed !!!! and even free wifi !!! offered in business class. Price was 50% of competition. I came from ABJ and price was the same. Had phantastic fresh ornage juice for breakfast. All flights over the atlantic are like that. The rechecking of luggage and waiting time to go in same plane to BWI was a bit of a pain. Might make more sense to continue travel directly in JFK. For example we arrived early at 6 am in JFK but continuation at 9am and security only opens at 7.30am

Babies, crying, movies and sound doesn’t working overpacked and delayed flight

The service was terrible. We weren’t allowed to take water on the flight and the drinks were offered only at the end of the meal. When we used the button to call the flight attendants, they never showed up and when my daughter’s drink was spilled due to turbulences, she asked for something to clean her pants at least 4 times and eventually they gave her a tissue. The flight attendants were rude and overall the flight was terrible!

Good but your male staff should be more appreciative of customers. After all you are making a lot of monies from Nigerians.

Delays with no communication. Broken business class seat and no one seems to care or help.

The head of the flight attendants was very rude and impolite and insisted to know my nationality on flight while I had my Can passeport! against all rules!

Adequate. Served our purpose of getting there safely. Nothing to rave about. Decent value for the amount paid

Old planes that are not being maintained with at least basic cleaning. Plane smells awful, bathrooms not cleaned either. Very uncomfortable chair. Customer service probably one of the worst I have experienced. The AC dis not work, kept us on the plane for over an hour with no water and air condition

Old planes that are not being maintained with at least basic cleaning. Plane smells awful, bathrooms not cleaned either. Customer service probably one of the worst I have experienced.

I lost my connection flight from Casablanca to Marrakech because we arrived late to Casablanca. I had to rent a car to continue my trip . I need refunds

The plane was new, clean and nice. The crew was very attentive and pleasant. The food wasn’t great, though - even in business class…
