Pros:Car was good
Cons:That the insurance part wasn't mentioned at time of purchase. The person told us that it would cost us an extra $33 a day because it's against the law to not purchase the Mexican insurance instead of either going without or using our own. Original price was $116, the price changed from $465 with a $300 deposit to $385/$300 deposit when we were ready to walk out the door

Pros:they cancelled the reservation at the last minute.

Pros:Staff was polite and professional despite our litany of complaints about their company's policies, airport pick up and drop off were smooth, car didn't break.
Cons:We booked on Kayak at a very low rate ($7/day) for a 12 day rental, which I've found is not unusual for car companies with overstock. What was not usual was the in-house insurance rates--$52/day for 90% coverage, which was then discounted to $35/day after we complained. In many years of renting insured cars I've never been charged such a disproportionate rate. Then we were informed the office was closed during our scheduled drop off time (6am), and that we'd have to pay another $30 for the drop off. Then we realized that we were being charged in pesos, with an office exchange rate of 19.5:1, which meant the dollar amounts we discussed would actually be about 6% higher on our credit card statement. The Payless office is 2 km away from the airport, so we felt stuck and went with it, but company policies are clearly designed to draw in customers with low rental prices and then add as much as possible once you're in the office.

Pros:That they offered me a better carrental company and they took me there.
Cons:No shuttle bus and workers available on arrival. Next day they tried to charge me 3x higher price then booked. Then negotiating with the price. Tricking with extra insurances. Rental just dis not happened bcs of the unreliable company and the hidden fees and tricks... avoid this rental company!!!!

Pros:It had 4 wheels.
Cons:We reserved a 12 passenger van. They didn't have this and had to give us 2 separate vehicles and promised us they would bring us the van in the next 2 days. This didn't happen and we had to make contact again and FINALLY got the van we had reserved. Kayak quoted us $250 and the actual price was $680.

Pros:The check in/out process was relatively fast. The employees were all nice
Cons:When I made this reservation for a min van I knew there were going to be extra fees for the insurance but it was not possible to see how high they would be. To make it short my $156 reservation turned out to be $540 after taking the package the person at the counter reccomended. The guy actually reduced the rate he originaly presented of $580 if I paid $520 in the credit card and $20 in cash for som e processing. I agreed to this price and noticed their exchange rate from USD to pesos to be $21.5. Having just arrived in Mexico I wasn't sure what the exchange rate was. I mentioned it seemed high but they assured me it was the average. This turned out to be a ridiculous lie as I found out throughout my stay the highest exchange rate I ever saw was $18. My credit card voucher was made for 11,1180 pesos. Once this transaction was made visible online I saw the bank had exchange this number to $615 USD using the exchange rate of 18.17. As soon as I noticed this I called the people at the office ion Cancun and after talking on the phone with several employees that were very nice but couldn't give me a straight answer I was able to talk to the manager. I expressed my disatisfaction with the unrealistic exchange rate they had posted of 21.50. I knew he didn't have any control over this but I told him I wanted him to cancel my credit card charge and I would pay $520 in cash (remember I had already given $20 in cash). I told him he could then take the $520 USD and try to find someone who would habe an exchange rate of 21.50 per USD. He told me they couldn't accept USD in cash and if I wanted to pay cash it would have to be in pesos, which would be taken at their ridiculous exchange rate of 21.50. If that was truly the case why had they accepted the $20 in cash I paid when I signed up? No matter how I would pay for this transaction it would never be the $540 deal I agreed when I signed up when I picked up the car. I asked him what were my options. He was veery polite but said that unfiortunately there wasn't anything he could do about that and the best I could do with be to complain durectly to Payless Corporate Offices. He went on to mention that a lot of people complain about them and get some money back. Bottom line is they know this is a scam and they continue ripping people off. Not sure if this has ever been reviewed by their corporate offices but I have a lot of clients traveling to this area of Mexico and I will go out of my way to make sure they stay clear of these thieves!!! If al this wasn't bad enough they said they didn't have a mini van I had requested so they would give me a Suburban. I understand this might be a desirable option for some people as it is a bigger car but I didn't want to pay the extra gas a Suburban uses. The Suburban we received had a foul smell, all the seats were stained, the door handle was broken, had a hard time turning on each time. Horrible conditions for a rental car.

Pros:Staff was friendly and made pick up and drop off smooth
Cons:Unclear pricing. Advertisement says nothing about the insurance which is required and costs two orders of magnitude more than the rental
A
5.2 Fair
Pros:Not much to like.
Cons:One week worth of insurance was $600 when it was all said and done, 6 times the amount of the actual rental.

Cons:They jacked up the price once I got there from $40 to $320 I had to go to another company
N
3.6 Poor
Cons:The insurance you buy online does not apply to your insurance on the ground. Overall, a total headache. But the minivan was good.
